Children & Young People

Children and young people are important to Hillside’s life. They are actively involved in our services as members of the Puppet Team, Drama Group, and Band, but they are also able to learn and be nurtured through a range of activities organised for their specific age groups.

3.00pm – 5.00pm  every 1st Sunday in the month at St Cuthbert’s, Marley Hill.

Super Sunday at All Saints

This is our Sunday morning activity time for our children aged 3 to 11. After spending the first twenty minutes or so in the main service they go to the Church Hall for their own teaching, returning later in the service for the final song or for Communion.

HUNGRY – The Hillside Youth Group

HUNGRY stands for Hillside United New Generation of Radical Youth, a title chosen by the young people themselves. This is our group for the 11 to 18 year olds. They meet in the All Saints Church Hall on Friday evenings during school terms to enjoy time with friends, play games, eat biscuits, and learn more about God. They also meet in the Prayer Room on the second and fourth Sundays of each month for their own discussion time during part of the morning service.

Each February the young people go on a weekend away and this year we have also introduced a series of ‘Preparing for University’ sessions as part of their Friday evening meetings.

The Hillside Puppet Team

Members of the Puppet Team present the Gospel in a fun and accessible way and are an integral part of our worship, outreach, and ministry to the children and adults in our congregations. The children who are the puppeteers are enabled to develop their individual skills in teamwork, commitment, and responsibility. The Puppet Team provides a framework for discipling them and preparing them for leadership. One of our former puppeteers is now a junior Puppet Team leader and we anticipate that more will follow. The photograph shows the Puppet Team with Bishop Paul.

Sunday morning creche at All Saints

We have a crèche area set aside at the back of church as well as a dedicated crèche upstairs (at All Saints, Lobley Hill) for the under 3’s, with a video link to the main service.

Child Protection Policy

Hillside Church has a Child Protection Policy in accordance with the Good Practice Guidelines issued by the Diocese of Durham Board of Education. Everyone involved in any aspect of working with children and young people must have DBS clearance; this scheme is administered through the Diocesan office.

All Saints Pre-School
